Better AI answers start before you ask.
No more writing prompts by hand.
Shikomi turns what you mean into what AI needs.
Private beta · invitations sent in batches
AI answers in seconds. You still spend minutes gathering context, explaining the task, and explaining it again.
Shikomi turns what you gathered into one clean brief — before you ask.
Step one · capture
Time Machine for your copy-paste.
Shikomi watches the clipboard quietly, on your terms. Recents holds your last twenty copies — text, links, images, scraps — newest first. Today, Yesterday, and Remind Me hold the rest.
One keystroke — ⌘1–⌘6 — pastes any recent clip without you having to re-copy it. Images get text-extracted automatically using macOS Vision. Links carry page titles. Nothing leaves your Mac.
Step two · brief
Keep in-flow.
Four small steps between a copy and a clean brief. None of them ask you to leave the app you're in. None of them ask you to write a prompt from scratch.
- 01
Intent
Pick a clip, click Intent. Shikomi crystallises the source into a clean handoff packet — intent, source context, scope, constraints, success criteria.
- 02
Success Criteria
Define what a good downstream answer looks like. Up to five concise lines. Editable any time before you send.
- 03
Problem Framing
Shikomi validates Success Criteria against your selected clips and any attached files, flagging contradictions and missing context before they cost you a round-trip.
- 04
Generate Brief
One clean Markdown brief — Goal · Context · Success Criteria · Constraints · Output — ready to paste anywhere.
Step three · hand off
One clean brief
for any AI tool.
The brief is plain Markdown. Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Cursor, Claude Code — same packet, same shape. Your playbook lives in Shikomi, not inside any single AI tool.

## Goal Investor reply that asks for one clarifying number without sounding defensive. ## Context - Email thread, last 3 messages - Q3 deck — slide 7 (margins) - Priya's Slack note, 14:32 ## Success Criteria - Under 120 words - Lead with the ask - No metric inflation ## Constraints - Match prior thread tone - No new commitments ## Output A draft reply, plain text, ready to paste.
What Shikomi refuses, by design
On-device first
Most transforms run on Apple's on-device model. Nothing leaves your Mac for them.
Your API key
Cloud transforms use your own provider key. We never own credentials and never bundle credits.
No screen-watching
No screen recording. No accessibility scraping. We only see what you copy.
No data selling
No ads. No data selling. No lifetime lock-in. Cancel anytime.
The French call it mise en place: everything in its place before the rush. The Japanese call it shikomi: quiet preparation so service flows.
Every day we send hundreds of messages with no equivalent — no cutting board, no staging surface, no second pass. This is that.
Shikomi is the macOS prep board for AI work. Select copied fragments, define the outcome, and Shikomi prepares a clean Markdown brief for the AI tool you choose next.
Prep before sending.
Shikomi is in private beta. Join the waitlist for an invite. We open the door in small batches so each new user gets a real conversation.
